Healthius Christmas Appeal 2017
This Christmas we're raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation to help defeat meningitis, in honour of CatThiefKeith – donate here
Last year, for the first time, we at Healthius HQ organised a charity Christmas appeal. Between you lovely lot and some match-funding from MNHQ, we raised over £14k for Women’s Aid and Refuge. She was a fantastic poster, really funny and joyful.
We hope you’ll be pleased to hear we want to do it again. We’ll be raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation, in honour of MNer CatThiefKeith who sadly passed away earlier this year. (The Meningitis Research Foundation is the charity MNers have been fundraising for in CatThiefKeith’s memory since she died.) MNHQ will again be matchfunding donations made up to £10,000, so please, click here to donate anything you can spare.
We know this is an expensive time of year, but any donation at all will be greatly appreciated and WILL make a difference. Please read on to find out more about the Meningitis Research Foundation and the brilliant work they do.
We’ll keep you updated with running totals and we’ll launch a guest post. Please keep an eye on the thread in site stuff and we’ll of course be promoting the appeal on the site and our social channels.
Meningitis Research Foundation
Meningitis is a devastating and indiscriminate disease. Whilst babies, young children and young adults are the most susceptible, meningitis and septicaemia can affect any one, of any age, at any time. It is a common – and dangerous – misconception that meningitis only affects babies.
Striking quickly without warning, meningitis can kill within hours and early warning signs are notoriously difficult to spot. For every 10 people affected, one will die and two will be left with life-altering after-effects such as limb amputations, brain damage, and hearing and sight loss. In the most serious cases, those affected may never lead independent lives again. She was a friend to me in really bad times. I treasure her and this is such a loss.
Christmas is peak time for meningitis and septicaemia. A higher presence of bacteria in the winter months means that meningitis is more likely to spread during the Christmas period than at any other time of the year.
Meningitis Research Foundation is a leading UK and international meningitis charity that brings together people and expertise to defeat meningitis and septicaemia wherever it exists. The charity aims to see fewer people get meningitis in the first place; see more people survive with reduced disability and a better quality of life; and have engaged, informed and supported patients and communities.
Loved her stories; she had such a way with words.
Your support will go directly into MRF’s work in support, awareness, research and advocacy; helping to defeat this devastating disease and provide a better life for those living with the after-effects. Please donate today if you can. Thank you so much.
