This is the feedback thread for the MNers who attended an exclusive event where they were given tips and advice for protecting themselves against financial scams and fraud, as well as enjoying special treats to ‘take five’ out of their busy lives.

Here’s what Take Five have to say: “Our research shows that many people do not feel confident that they could identify a fraudulent approach. Therefore the event will aim to empower and inspire parents to feel better prepared to ‘confidently challenge’ fraudsters, and recognise signs of fraud - remembering the mantra – My Money? My Info? I don’t think so.”

I take five by relaxing with a cup of coffee and a book while my daughter has a nap. When I have the opportunity I also try to go for a walk to de-stress.

Non attendee - For me the best way to relax is to put my feet up and watch good movie or read book and have a cup of green tea. I think is great if you can find a bit of time to relax but with children this is not always possible. So I have to wait until they go to bed and then I can do a bit of knitting. ( my newly found hobby)

nonatendee here - my take five are...
1. cup of tea or hot drink equivalent
2. hot shower or bath (essential for the winter)
3. having a lovely thick blanket to rest under
4. a good book that I can get stuck in to
5. and of course Healthius! smile

I practice mindfulness for a few minutes. It all about bringing awareness back into the present and stop your mind racing. I'll look at the leaves of trees blowing in the wind or feel the ground under my feet. I might listen to the birds or notice the breeze on my face. It doesnt matter what you focus on it just matters that for a moment you take a step out of the crazy world and really notice it and how beautiful it is.

As daft as it sounds, I take five to relax by taking the dog to the toilet ! I live in a very quiet area and have a long garden, so a little stroll to take the dog to the loo can be very relaxing for me :D Thanks smile

I take five by having a sing along (badly) to catchy songs. Also with wine!

Non-attendee. I take a bit more than 5 by going for a run to clear my head. I have to get up early and I often don't feel like getting out of bed, particularly if DC3 has had me up a lot in the night, but I never regret it and always feel better for it. It's a great way to start the day it gives me a bit of peace and relaxation as well as exercise.

Non/attendee: I'm not great at relaxing, but I love to have a cup of 'nighttime' tea ( am obsessed with the pukka stuff) to chill me out before bed.

The key message was to take 5 to consider the situation before proceeding.

Most scams rely on rash decisions and sadly earlier this year I was scammed by fraudulent bailiffs of over £7000 which was my life savings when I thought I was acting in kindness to help a friend - said friend has since left me to deal with the consequences on my own.
Had I attended this event beforehand I could have prevented the whole sorry situation.
I will not get caught out again thanks to this event.

Thanks for hosting the event, I found it helpful and informative - there are some terrible people out there!

This is @ASausageDogCalledBeans feedback for the Take Five event:

- Can you tell us what the key message for Take Five was?
To take five minutes before giving out information, trust your instinct and don't be pressured into going against your gut reaction. Be cautious and don't be afraid to call things to a halt.

- Do you think having attended the event would help you identify fraud and scams in the future?
Yes I do, it made me think about how exposed we are to fraud on a daily basis. Criminals are getting clever and finding new ways to get to you, eg making their email or phone number appear to be from a genuine organization.

- What would you say you learnt the most about at the event?
Organisations don't ask you for account information over email or phone, they would already have that information if they were genuine, its taught me to be wary and question things.

- Would you say that you know more about fraud and scams since attending the event?
Yes it has really opened my mind and is a very valid lesson for me.

- Following the event, how would you describe what you’ve learnt - in a nutshell - to a friend who didn’t attend?
Take 5 (simple and to the point) cant think of a better description.

I take five by singing. I go to choir every week and it has made such a difference to my well being in the last five years. We are a Community Choir so also go and sing for others in care homes, supermarkets, the city and the hospital and most other places we are invited. It is up lifting for us and other people seem to enjoy it. Last time we did a flash mob in the hospital ( staff knew) and we made a lady patient cry, with joy!
I might add I thought I wouldn't get scammed however I was upset, shaken by the cleverness of someone claiming to be from HMRC but luckily I smelt a rat. He was very convincing at the beginning though and I think others may not be so lucky as to realise it was a scam. I informed the police afterwards.
I was quite shaken by the threats at the beginning of the conversation and found it difficult to concentrate which I think they do on purpose to throw you off clear thinking. I asked him several times if it was a scam and usually they hang up then but he was persistent in the end I went along with it on the phone then thought about it and then didn't respond. I went to my friends to tell her and when I returned there had been thirty two missed calls at a withheld number! I felt very stupid afterwards but thought how vulnerable ladies like my friend looks after could be taken in.

I take 5 by doing a quick mindfulness body scan when I can, it really helps and I am more likely to stick to 5 minutes than if I did anything else, and I feel the benefit afterwards
